WriteHand

Almost any editor has at one time or another wished he or she had a helping hand with a crop of young enthusiastic journalists who need more guidance and tutoring than time permits. That's where WriteHand enters the picture. Designed to help improve the quality of stories these individuals write, it is also oriented toward anchoring them in the newspaper industry so they can put down roots and help end the newsroom revolving door.

Paul will work by e-mail and online with one or perhaps two individuals in a newsroom. For weeklies, work would commence at the beginning of the writing cycle for the publication.

The process begins by first looking at two or three pieces the individual has written, asking them to complete a self-analysis form and also asking the editor to complete a similar form, giving his thoughts regarding this individual's strengths and weanesses.

Next, Paul will work with reporters on a specific assignment brainstorming sources, resources, graphics, photos and background. Each day, Paul will make contact with the writer charting progress, answering questions and providing suggestions.

After the story is published, a post-mortem will be conducted. The program is designed to be conducted over a four-week publishing cycle for maximum impact.
